EVENTs photo guide
We're excited to have you photograph our upcoming event! Here is a short guide to get you familiar with what we are looking for in our event photos.
THE HERO IMAGE
The hero image is our most important image. It’s goal is to summarize the event all in one image, while also hooking the viewer in.
The hero image needs to be shot vertically and should include:
The “poster” car or a selection of cool cars related to the event
People in the image to show the event was well attended
Avants or relevant event branding whenever possible
SHOT LIST
Photos should be shot primarily with social media in mind, with a target of 30–40+ images consisting of approximately 70% vertical and 30% horizontal shots.
Branding: Include Avants or event sponsor branding in the background when possible.
Event scale: Show the size of the event and the volume of cars and people attending.
Image variety: Tell a full story: Include cars, people, food, pets, and other details. Include wide shots, interactions, and close-up details. Capture a variety of the cars, don’t just focus on a specific niche of cars.
Candid interactions: Capture people laughing, catching up, checking out cars, and enjoying the event. Look for natural moments between people and cars.
Partner images (if applicable): Show our partners interacting with people.
Event activities (if applicable): Capture the tours, demonstrations, driving, or other activities that make the event unique.
Group shot (if applicable): Include Avants staff, volunteers, and partners.
WHAT TO AVOID
Empty tents or booths: Make sure to photograph people interacting at the booths.
Messy backgrounds: Avoid cluttered tables, trash, cardboard boxes, porta-potties, etc.
Too many standalone car shots: We still want strong car photos, but they shouldn’t dominate the gallery. Include people and activity throughout.
Unflattering candids: Avoid people chewing, awkward expressions, or distracting body positions. Choose moments people would feel good about seeing shared.
Excessive editing: Avoid heavy filters, over-saturation, unnatural skin tones, and edits that lose detail in shadows.
